Best way to conquer fear of flying?

by FearLessDoMore on January 28, 2010

Hi there, my brother is coming away to America with us in June this year after being ill, he really needs a holiday. However, he is very afraid of flying and I was looking for anyone with previous experience of hypnosis or anything like that, that will help him to fly care free. We live near London so if anyone could reccomend a place or person for hypnosis treatment please do. Thank You x

Hypnosis is unlikely to work as not many people are open to it.
The only way to conquer what is an irrational fear or phobia is to confront it by doing it I’m afraid.

I dont know anything about hypnosis therapy, but he could go to the doc and see if he can get some mild sedatives….

Hope that helps… good luck :)

Contact The Fear Master - ex-Royal Marine Andy Duncan is great at helping people with this sort of thing.

Manchester airport used to run fear of flying classes, The attendees were given a whole morning having the aircraft explained to them and the physics of flying etc. Then the course ended up with a quick flight around.

I used to print their sick bags and made a fortune ;o)

Hypnosis is tricky. It may work. It may not work. And there is no way to know in advanced. I’m trained in it, and I never use it for fear of flying treatment because there are other methods which are completely reliable. Please have a look at the video that explains how fear of flying is controlled at http://www.fearofflying.com/store/free-video.shtml

There is also a UK site: http://www.fearofflying.uk.com/store/free-video.shtml

The video is about 18 minutes long and it explains how brain scan research has given us the clues we needed to control feelings automatically when flying.

Either you have it or you don’t have it.

I have seen at some flying schools that they offer courses which help you get over it, I have read a brief description about one before, its like a 1 day course half in a class room getting spoken to about your fear and the 2nd half going airborne

hhhm? I would say get a pilots license. That would calm you down and get you more comfortable with aircraft, or pick up skydiving and just immerse yourself in that fear. It’s called facing your fears, one good dose is usually enough to get over it.
