How can i conquer my fear of taking a blood sample?

by FearLessDoMore on March 5, 2010

Whenever i see blood being drawn or do it myself(i have to see it to do it) it makes me dizzay and i sometimes faint. This is odd to me, i have no fear of needles, giving shots, getting shots, cutting flesh, guts or or even blood in general. For some reason when i see blood going into a container while it is drawn it just makes me lightheaded and i faint. What can i do to get over this? I am a pre med student so this will pose some serious problems down the road.
Thanks

First, if you’re holding your breath when drawing blood, stop.
Second, how long have you been drawing blood? Experience should desensitize this effect.

I’m an emergency room nurse.

When you do procedures, you are not feeling the procedure at all. You are doing your job. Right?
