I am terrified of needles too! But, I can tell you that what helps me a great deal is NOT watching while the needle is inserted. I have found that it is the anticipation and anxiety upon the needle entering your body rather than the actual pain that frightens me the most. The pain should not be severe at all if the nurse knows what she is doing. Never watch the nurse insert the needle. In fact, tell he or she that you’d rather not know when they are about to do it. Turn your head away and sing a little song or laugh a little bit and just try to make light of the situation. I assure you that you are SO NOT ALONE in your fear about this! Also, try not to even think about it if you know you have a doctors appointment and will be getting a shot…ignore it until you’re actually in the doctors office and then just NEVER look at the needle. I hope this helps you the way it has helped me :)

Take care hon

Strap yourself down and intentionally watch yourself while you donate blood to SOMEONE WHO NEEDS IT TO LIVE… The more you do anything the more used to it your brain gets and it overrides your fear into acceptance with intentional stimuli.

Maybe saving someone Else’s life will help you out with the concept of perspective?

I love to watch when people take my blood… Especially out of the back of my hand…

Minimize the perception of threat in your mind..
They save hundreds of thousands of lives a day.. surely, they can’t be dangerous, right?
Stay in good shape.. The better shape you are in the easier it is to find a vein.

If you really relax the part that being poked you don’t even feel it. Think of a really pretty naked woman helps too.

When you are getting a shot don’t look at the needle and think about the last time you had sex.

The best way to deal with it, is don’t look. Think of something else instead, like an ant bite, or your friend poking you with a pencil to tease you. It works for me.

As long as the needle is being injected by your doctor you shouldn’t be scared. Remember and assure yourself that he/she went to collage for about 8 years and knows what he/she is doing. But most of all don’t sweat it everyone doesn’t care to be poked by them either

STICK NEEDLES IN YOUR EYEBALLS

I’m not sure-it depends on how severe it is.

Some people are able to do exposure therapy (where you start off looking at a picture of a needle then go up by steps to finally getting an injection or having blood drawn) successfully.

I have a severe reaction to needles-I almost go into shock. I’m sorry that other people who have responded have been somewhat insensitive.

And while it makes me feel bad that I can’t donate blood, I’ve had nurses at the Red Cross tell me that I shouldn’t do it since I get really ill whenever they try and take blood (plus the fact that I have nearly invisible arteries and it takes a lot to find them).

I started selling my plasma, I was scared of the needles but needed the money. After they did it I was just fine, whenever they do it I just look away and it’s always fine, I barely even feel it.

This is what I do:

Accept the fact that my fear will not be conquered any time soon.

Accept the fact that I will have to take a blood test every year and possibly, shots.

Take a deep breath when the needle goes in. I look at the needle to make sure it is a needle and not anything worse.

And remember, it’s only a few seconds. After that, everything will be okay again.
