Right, last Christmas, I had ingrown toenails (this does lead somewhere), which I had a local anaesthetic for. Ever since then I’ve had a deep phobia of needles. Also pain (The needles hurt like no mans business). So, I’ve been scared of fillings (drills and needles… Eww!)… What can I do to keep me calm, and how is the procedure under sedation?
Thanks

You shouldnt be worried about the drills you should be worried that the doctor might stick his wiener in your mouth while your on the anaesthetics he also might poop in your moth cus if i had the opportunity id do it
The nerves for toes and fingers are particularly sensitive and the needle for them is qite painful until the medicine starts working. The needle for dentistry is no way as painful as for the toes. Talk to your dentist about your fear. Call them asap. Perhaps they can give you valium, if you tolerate that medicine. Under light valium many people become much less sensitive to worry and anxiety. There’s also nitrous oxide for anesthesia. Many people relax and feel no pain under gas. Some people have adverse reactions to nitrous. With certain people they experience panic attacks which are temporary, as a parodoxical reaction to nitrous. Discuss that with your dentist. I hate needles too. The drill will not hurt after the novocaine takes effect. Knowledge is power. Now you know.
You ever see what they do to the patients when they sedate them?
No way I’m going under for a little dental procedure like a filling.
There’s no dental procedure and I mean no procedure that requires sedation.
I’ve had bone grafting and gum surgery under normal anesthesia.
you should definitely talk to your dentist about a possible light oral sedation that you can take before your appointment so that you really won’t be thinking about the procedure and also helps take away the pain from the needles (novocain). I would also recommend bringing your iPod with you and listen to your favorite music while your dentist is doing the fillings - it’s just another way to help take your mind off of what the dentist is doing. I also have a stress ball that I bring with me when I’m having novocain and my dentist knows to tell me when he’s going to stick me so that I can close my eyes, breathe deeply out of my nose and squeeze the stress ball. This really helps me to take my mind off of the needle.
