All you need to do is walk on that plane. Once you are up in the air you will see how amazing it is =)

A fear of flying is no small thing to overcome. On my first flight back in 2005, I was 19. We flew from Cleveland to Chicago to Orlando. I can’t say that I had a fear of flying, but I was very nervous. A traveling companion, on the other hand, was extremely, overly fearful. At one point, she wanted to get off the plane. She ended up having to take her panic attack medication to calm herself down.

If you don’t think you’re that fargone, or don’t have any medication to relax you, I recommend getting yourself in the head of how safe flying is. It is safer than driving. Think of how excited you are to get to your destination. Imagine how silly you would feel if you didn’t fly just because you had this fear - that’s what I do when I get fear. I was about to ride a huge roller coaster a couple weeks ago and got a pang of fear - but I knew I waited in line forever, and I would lose a great opportunity if I didn’t do it.

I would also try to stay occupied the whole time you’re waiting for your flight with magazines, books, DVDs, etc. When you get onto the flight, keep yourself occupied too. Check out the safety info in the seat pocket in front of you so you are assured on what to do if an emergency happens.

I wish you the best of luck in overcoming your fear. The traveling companion I mentioned has made some great strides, but she still has huge anxiety in general. Have a wonderful flight when you get to it!

P.S. And yes … flying is beautiful … I always get the window seat so I can look down. It’s an unbeatable experience! I get an adrenaline rush.
