Can you please tell me your favourite Biblical quotes of comfort in times of fear?
I collapsed yesterday morning (reasons still unknown) and smashed my face on the floor, nearly knocking out two of my front teeth. I have to go to the dentist in just over an hour, and i’m terrified. I was hoping to find some Biblical teachings that would help me.
Please don’t respond saying that the Bible is not what I need, or that the Bible is useless, as I have recieved many responses just like this in previous questions, and while I respect the opinions of the posters and have no desire to change them, that’s not what I need right now - I am asking a specific question, if you have no intention of answering it then please don’t reply. Thank you.

Oh, I’m not religious but no one has answered your question so I feel bad so here goes (my knowledge of the bible is non existant) …….. Jesus got nailed to a cross and he was probably a bit scared unless he knew that he would come back to life in which case I bet he wasn’t too bothered but anyway…..He did it without a fuss and it all worked out fine in the end, so it wasn’t worth being scared in the first place! I bet I am not helping.
But if that fails just think they give you some great numbing stuff and you get to dribble for the rest of the day!

Belive me i have an absolute fear of the dentist,the 23rd psalm might not seem appropriate but it does calm me a little bit.

edit- here’s an added bonus…
don’t use negative words to tell yourself what NOT to do. your brain works the same way the search engine on your computer does. if you tell yourself ”don’t be afraid,” your brain picks up on the command ”afraid,” and your body starts doing the thing you told it NOT to do. instead, tell yourself, out loud, to be bold and courageous. the part of your brain that controls speech is connected to all the nerve endings throughout your body. the bible confirms this. read more about it in proverbs 3:3 and psalm 45:1. pay special attention to the last sentence in both verses. get those verses down pat, then go to mark 11:11-14, and 11:19-23. good stuff.
I have a problem with dentists too. This is not from the bible, but it helps me in desperate fearful times. It comes from a teaching I read in a book on meditation and staying calm…
There is a deep part of your soul that is never fearful, desperate,scared, or worried. This is the center of your spirit. You know what I speak of you can feel it. Just like the surface of the ocean can be affected by storms and waves can be turbulent, and deadly. But the Very bottom of the ocean stays calm and quiet, no matter what is on the surface. When your scared you can think of that place inside yourself. Where you are protected by the divine. Where you are unchangable. It’s there. Looking at the ocean waves during a storm, you would never know that a calm part of it exists. That is just like your life. You are always "okay" even in the chair at the dentists office. I think of the part of myself that cannot be scared or hurt. good luck! *hugs*
Same as a few others…I’m not versed in the bible, but as far as fear goes I use a very good "litany" from Frank Herbert’s Dune:
I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
Honestly not trying to be a jerk, just helping the best I can. I understand fear and it’s a tough one to overcome.
I have extreme fear of the dentist too. but the last time I had to have some major work done, they gave me the laughing gas and numbed me up real good. It made all the difference in the world. sorry no bible quotes.
I do feel sorry for you. I have seen this happen so many times. (I work in a dental office). If the teeth are gone (root and all) they will probably only take x-rays and do an exam and discuss options for replacing them or repairing surrounding damaged teeth. Perhaps a few root canals for those less affected.
As for replacements: Bridges, implants, a partial.
They will wait til the bruises heal. Oh, I really do feel bad for you. Your poor mouth must really hurt. You didn’t break anything else did you? Your nose?
You know, I would be more concerned at the moment as to why you passed out. That is not normal. You should really have a medical exam as well.
As for a prayer: I always pray the Lord’s Prayer. Let his will be done. It scares me because I don’t know His will, but if I can’t trust Him, who can I trust?
The serenity prayer has helped me in more situations than you can imagine.

Although what happened to you is dreadful, at least you have the resources to have it taken care of. You have a dentist, you have a way to pay for the care. Billions of people in the world would be thankful for that.
So, say the prayer and give thanks that you can get the care you need.

When I go to the dentist, I find that it helps to think of him (or her) at the dentist’s. They too have to go to the dentist (they can’t sort out their own teeth) and they don’t enjoy the experience either!
