How does quote “..nothing to fear but fear itself ” apply to the characters and plot in to kill a mockingbird?

A lot of the characters in the book were defeated by their own fear; the fear of change. Such as the fear that Bob Ewell found in himself before he accused Tom Robinson. It’s not that he hated black people; they were different to him, and it was something that was changing in the times; and he was afraid of that change. Boo Radley was afraid that going outside of his home would cause him to lose purity. Everyone in the town had fear inside of themselves.
