To me it means that you can still be afraid but you have asked for strength (from some higher power) and are willing to act even with your fear. Besides asking for the strength to face whatever your fear, there is also the element of feeling that God or the universe will get you through this.

A person who is about to do something courageous knows the danger he/she faces and is not only intent on getting through it, but has said a prayer for his safe keeping whilst he does his/her courageous deed.
