The quote is from Franklin Roosevelt’s 1933 Inaugural speech to the American people at his first of four presidential victories. The U.S. was in a state of shock following the depression of the 1920’s and was also attempting to recover from stock market crash of ‘29. The political outlook in Europe was extremely unstable and our own economic outlook was very poor.
